Music History: Reading List

One of the most common requests received by the RIAM is for suggestions on books to help with teaching and studying music history, especially in relation to the Grade VI, VII, VIII and Senior Certificate musicianship exams. Philip Shields, one of the RIAM Librarians, has put together a reading list of books to start with. The first one on the list is particularly good, as it is quite accessible for students, but it covers everything they would need. Philip has also made some suggestions on books that would be useful in preparing for other aspects of the written papers.

If you would like more information on the RIAM Library, you can find them on Facebook.

If you have a book that you like or that you find really useful in your teaching, please share it in the comments!
