Sight-reading is an important and valuable skill for any musician, but often the ten marks that are allocated to this section in the graded exam is interpreted as an area that needs less work; or an area that can be sacrificed due to time constraints. In the Royal Irish Academy of Music Local Centre Exam System, we recognise the need to support you more where sight-reading is concerned. We are delighted to announce therefore that over the year we will be rolling out sample sight-reading for every instrument and grade (with the exception of piano for which the book series Let’s Get Reading is available). It is important to note, however, that these samples will not assist you in sight-reading training, but they will give you an idea of the standard expected.
